This is a really quick sketch of the angle i had photographed this motel while up visiting my sister one time. There was much more to it back then but this is what was left at the time we were there awhile back.
It was the first motel in the world, opening on December 12, 1925. Photos on line show much more to it than what I have drawn.
From the angle of my photo that I sketched this from, it looked like the big sign was right in front of the motel but actually it was out closer to the street.
I had fun sketching it on this quiet day in the mountains over Labor Day weekend. I expected to hear a lot of noise coming from the lake but I wonder if anybody has come up to our little town to celebrate - it's s-o-o-o quiet.
Anyway in 2015 I read that there are plans to bring this old motel back to life and it will be a boutique hotel. I haven't read anything else about it so not sure if it is really going to be revived.
