Normanton Church, Rutland

Yesterday was beautifully warm: the power of the sun seeping into our bones. We travelled a few miles to Rutland Water which is a big reservoir - constructed in the 1970's to serve the counties of The East Midlands. We parked near a village with a curious name - Edith Weston. Then we walked along the shore to Normanton Church.

This early nineteenth century church stands on an artificial peninsula. It was saved from the rising flood waters following a successful public campaign. Who says that protesting never changes a thing? They're so wrong.

We carried on with our leisurely walk to the dam at the eastern end of Rutland Water and after turning back we stopped for lunch in the gardens of The Normanton Park Hotel. The setting was perfect but sadly the high cost of the sandwiches was not reflected in their quality. Even so they were good enough to eat. I felt sorry for the young waitress whose awkward gait spoke of hip problems.

We came home to rest and escape from the hot afternoon sun before returning to the village of  Hallaton to visit "The Fox Inn" for our evening meal. The place was not particularly busy but we had to wait forty five minutes for our chosen plates to arrive. The food was good but the wait was excruciating - especially with a baby in a high chair becoming tired and slightly fractious. Some people who arrived after us and ordered their food after us had eaten up and departed before our meals had even arrived. I hate that kind of thing in eateries.

The morning weather should be great again today with rain finally arriving in the early afternoon to bring an end to our mini-heatwave. Ah well. It was smashing while it lasted.

Queer Art

 Holiday day three.
The weather remains fine.
Very warm with a nice sea breeze.
I popped over to the Mostyn Gallery to see the Tarek Lakhrissi My Immortal exhibition
Which was described thus
“Taking the 2003 song ‘My Immortal’ by American pop group Evanescence as its title, the exhibition reflects upon the notion of community, particularly a queer community which it considers as a complex, fragile and ephemeral entity. On the one hand it can offer possibilities of love, empowerment and protection but also nightmares and fears”
But still didn’t grasp his concepts fully.
I did like the spear mobiles though…..quite beautiful. I posted photographs on my Facebook page and my Sheffield bestie commented
Did you inform the gallery they have been robbed? All those mobiles stolen that were hanging from the wires. The horror! 😳😉 x“

I had a flat white in the cafe and, bought a picture of a curlew which made me feel better then went for a long walk on the Prom and out along the pier .

The breeze was gloriously warm

I bought myself an ice cream and people watched for a while
Everyone seemed to be in couples
I’m meeting a friend for dinner later
Tomorrow I’m off to London

C’est la vie

 A bowl of Grape Nuts

After a sweaty session

Feeling grateful

For the knowledge

That acceptance

Is growth

I can be

Proud of

My answer is no answer. I don’t need to speak to make a point. Silence speaks louder than my words ever could. So many times lately, I’ve had to not comment on what I see. I shake my head in disbelief on a daily basis. I no longer count. I no longer actively seek to change the world. If it happens, I’m greatly appreciative.  If not, it’s not the end of the world.  The seeds of change happen each day when I look in the mirror and purposely smile. Think about it.
