IN MY MOTHER'S LIFE
She had two dogs she loved. The first dog was a Standard Black Poodle who she named Pepe. I remember only one time when she had him groomed like people sometimes groom poodles with the cute top knot and the fluffy things around the legs. Other than that, Pepe just looked like a big poodle but with no sense of stylishness. I don't think it bothered him a bit. Pepe wasn't with us too long back then as he was killed in a car accident. While we had him though he was such fun. We would take him over to our cousins house in the summer and he learned how to climb up the water slide himself and slide down. He was such a character.
Mom's next dog was "Zsu Zsu".. who knows why that name, probably a variation of ZsaZsa. This was another poodle but a little one, not a miniature but not much bigger than that. She got this little dog sometime after Pepe died.
I had fun doing this sketch. Mom died in 1985 at age 60 from breast cancer. We really lost a fun person in our life. She had a good sense of humor and thank God this next thing I"m going to say didn't really bother us because we knew it was her humor. She would come in the bedroom every school morning and say "Wake up Sisters' Ugly". It would make us laugh. To someone else that might sound harsh but it actually was indicative of her humor.
The only thing mom didn't do much is exercise because back then it wasn't really a "thing" I guess for a lot of people. She wasn't very adventurous and actually I don't know if mom ever even walked a dog. In my imagination I can see her doing it but would she go over that hill - to see what's ahead ...probably not. We use to laugh when her and dad would fight over his drinking and she would threaten to leave . We knew with her sense of direction she would never get father than a few blocks before she would have to come home.
