Chameleon

On Friday I collected prints and paintings bought a while ago before lockdown .
They have been framed and hung in the cottage alongside the drawing by Monika's daughter
The whole personality of the cottage has changed over the last two years
It's mine now
I took the opportunity to go shopping and went to Waterstones to look and smell the books.
And saw something I bought on impulse
Not a book,
Not stationary, pens or magazines
But a Chameleon
A cheefully stuffed chameleon with odd eyes
I'm fucking 58 !
He's now sat beneath my art wall,
swinging his leg at a Jaunty angle
And smiling his odd smile at the world

What's all this about?

A HOUSE AT THE COAST

My imaginary life has the ocean behind the house, only one neighbor who is a recluse and never goes outside except to bring  us over the absolute best tamales I've ever tasted, ... AND a pitcher of margaritas.   Is this heaven or what?

On the days she spends at her son's place  in the valley, we have full use of her spa that looks out over the ocean (sadly we haven't told her about that).    We really love this old lady and look after her, making sure all is well.  When we don't see a drape or curtain open for several days we use the key she has given us to go in and check on her.

So far as we can tell she is in her 80's and her husband died 20 years  ago.  She fills up her time making quilts and once in awhile we will take her into the city to buy more material.  She has made us several beautiful pieces that hang on our walls in our cottage.

A couple times a week we take our sailboat out especially on breezy days.  We both like a bit of excitement and truly are weather geeks, always checking in several times a day for current weather conditions.

The front of the house is so plain but oh...., the back of the house is my sweet spot - a deck to sit out and watch the changing colors of the sunset in the evening and a comfortable lounge that I choose, sometimes on warm nights, to sleep on outside.  i bring Berkeley my parrot out some nights but he has learned to make gull sounds and this disturbs my peace.   On his chatty nights he goes back to his room which upsets him.

M and I have the life we have always dreamed we would have living near the water.    I'll enjoy this until the next fantasy  invites me to experience it for a little while.

Phyllis is due over any minute.  She called to say the Tamales are ready and so are the margaritas.
